High risk points-of-use and the people who need protecting

The points-of-use that pose the highest risk to users are those that are most likely to expose patients or residents to aerosols and microdroplets smaller than 5 µm; in particular, showers and faucets.

The people most at risk are those that are potentially vulnerable to opportunistic pathogens like Legionella due to their state of health or as a result of long-term medical treatment. The populations most at risk are those suffering from chronic disease, the elderly, people on long-term corticosteroid treatment and the immunocompromised.
